9:00 Welcome Members; Introduction/Biography of Carolyn Aarup

9:15 Presentation/Demonstration using Green Driving Horse

  • Starting a horse to drive (WHOA) voice commands and desensitizing.
  • Dentistry and Bits
  • Proper harnessing and ground work
  • Using a Reining Board

LUNCH BREAK – 12 NOON – 1:00 PM. Members may practice the reining boards at this time.

1:00 pm till 5:00 pm. Hands on for Members. Experienced driving horse is supplied.

  • Balancing the Cart
  • Driving Equipment (harness styles, whips, carts, etc.)
  • Lunging, line driving, long lining
  • Harnessing and Hitching (“Putting To”)
  • Runaway Protocol
  • Safety Checks on all participants prior to driving
  • Small groups of lessons for Beginners vs Experienced Drivers

5:00 Wrap up and additional question period.

Participants should bring material for note taking, chair and lunch. Box lunch will also be available if pre-ordered at time of registration.

SAFETY IS FOREMOST

Safe practices will be adhered to at all times. HELMETS must be worn by all drivers and whips carried is mandatory when driving.

Handouts will be emailed to ahead of time – please bring with you to clinic.
